Poornam / Black gram dal dumpling
For
Stuffing : Ingredients :
Urad dal /
Black gram dal : 1/2 cup
Green chilly : 3
Chopped ginger : 1 tsp
Salt to
taste.
To Temper :
Mustard
seeds : ½ tsp
Hing : a pinch
Curry leaves
: few
Ingredients for Outer Covering:
* Rice flour : 3/4 cup
Water : 3/4 cup + 1 ladle
Salt to taste.
Gingelly Oil / Til oil – 1 tsp
In heavy bottim Pan, Healt water and add oil and salt . When the water comes to boiling stage, add rice flour . Cook it stirring
continuously till it absorbs all the water. Close the lid ….
Allow it to become warm.
Keep water + oil mixture in a bowl. Grease your hands with this water+ oil mixture while kneading . Knead it well without any lumps. If you feel dry add some water and if it is sticky , add little rice flour.... and knead into a soft dough.
Keep it in hot pack till you are using
Prepare For Stuffing :
Soak Urad dal for 2 hrs.
Add chilly, ginger and Grind it adding very less water. Need not grind very nicely, like vadai batter. Batter should be like Idly batter consistency.
Add salt and mix
nicely.
Steam in Idly pan for 10 mts.
Let it cool.. Crumble them nicely.
In pan temper with mustard . Add hing powder and curry leaves and give a
stir. Add crumbled Urad dal and
saute it for 2 mts .
Stuffing is ready.
Now grease your hands with water + oil mixture.
pinch out a lemon size ball from the rice dough . Make a oval shaped rice base and keep the
Urad dal stuffing and close it from all the sides. Press gently with your fingers at the tip of the curved surface to form nice impression . Kozhukkattai should be ‘D’ in shape.
Prepare all the kozhukkatai and steam
cook for 7 mts.

gram dal dumpling is ready for neivedhyam.
If you have any leftover rice dough , you can prepare Ammini Kozhukkattai . or Ammini Kozhukkattai ( No Oil Version )

Note :
If you are making this for snacks on normal days, you can include finely chopped veggies while preparing stuffing.
