Ash Gourd , Black Eye Peas Kootu





Ash gourd , Black Eye Peas Kootu
SERVES  4

Ash gourd / Vellai Poosanikai :  2 cups ( chopped into  big cubes )

Black Eye peas / vellai  kaaraamani :  ¾ cup

Green chilly or Red chilly : 3

Grated coconut :  ½ cup

Cumin seeds : 1 tsp

Black Pepper : 4

Turmeric powder : 1 pinch

Salt to taste

Rice flour : 1 tsp

Sugar : ½ tsp

Curry leaves : few

Water : ½ cup

To Temper :

Coconut oil. : 1 tsp

Mustard : 1 tsp


       Soak Black eye peas overnight.

Grind coconut , cumin seeds, curry leaves, pepper and chilly to a fine paste.

Mix soaked peas, coconut paste and all the ingredients in a vessel except tempering ingredients.

Cook for 3 whistles in pressure cooker.

After opening temper mustard seeds in coconut oil. 

Garnish with curry leaves.


Note :   Can replace Ash gourd with Snake gourd , with or without using peas.
