Curd Rice / Thayir Sadham



Curd rice



Curd rice


Rice  :   1 cup

Water -   3+ ½  cups

Butter - 1 tbsp

Milk – 1 + ½  cup

Fresh curd – ½  cup

Salt to taste

Curry leaves - few

Chopped coriander leaves – 2 tbsp

Apple :  2 tbsp ( chopped )


To temper:

Oil - 1 tbsp

Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

Green chilies – 2 ( slit )

Ginger :  1 tsp ( chopped )

Hing powder :  2 pinches


Cook rice in a pressure cooker with water.  


After opening , When it is still hot , add butter, curry leaves,  salt, milk and  mash lightly.

When it comes to room temperature add curd and mix nicely.

Temper with mustard seeds and when it stops popping add chilly , ginger  and hing powder and saute for few secs. 

Garnish with coriander leaves and Apple pieces.   Very very tasty curd rice is ready to serve.
Serve with any  Pickle  .   


Note :  You can also add Seedless Green grapes  ,  Chopped Raw Mango,  Chopped Cucumber pieces , Pomegranate  for garnishing.  

Curd  Millet : 

Replace Rice with any of the following millet .   Cooking procedure is the same. 

1.  Kodo millet ( Varagu )
2.  Foxtail millet ( Thinai )
3.  Little millet ( Saamai ) 
4.  Banyard millet ( Kudhiraivali )
