Bisi Bele Bath






Bisibele Bath Recipe

 Ingredients :

• 1 tbsp Bengal gram.

• 1/2 inch piece of cinnamon stick

• 3 cloves

• 5 or 6 dry red chillies

*  1/2 tsp black pepper

• 1 tsp poppy seeds

• 2 tbsp coriander seeds

• 1/4 cup of grated dry coconut ( kopra) 

• 1 tsp turmeric powder

• 1/2 tsp hing

• 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds.

• 1 capsicum

• 1 carrots

• 1/4 cup peas

• 1/4 cup of beans

• 1 potato

• 1 drumstick

• 2 tsp tamarind paste

• 1/2 tsp jaggery

• salt to taste

 Other Main Ingredients

• 1 cup cooked rice

• 1/2  cup cooked Red gram / Tur dal

·        1 Onion


• salt to taste

 Ingredients For Seasoning

• 1 tbsp ghee

• 1 tsp mustard seeds

• 1 tbsp peanuts.

• 10 Curry leaves


  Bisibelabath Powder

 Add ghee in the pan and fry hing & Bengal gram. Saute until  light brown and you get a roasted aroma.

 Add cinnamon , cloves, dry red chillies , pepper, coriander seeds, poppy seeds and roast for few mts.

 Add dry coconut.  Switch off the flame. 

 Grind all the above ingredients when ingredients comes to room temperature . 

 Method :

• In a small pan fry onions in ghee till golden brown and  chopped veggies add stir fry for few minutes. In a vessel add cooked rice, cooked and mashed dal, salt, 4 cups of water,  tamarind paste , jaggery , stir fried vegetables and Bisibelebath powder. Stir well. Keep the vessel in pressure cooker & cook for 5 whistles. 

 In ghee temper mustard seeds, curry leaves and peanuts . 

Serve hot with Raitha / Potato Curry / Papad.
